    Description

I believe these two elegant little Japanese silk covered boxes were originally made for seals.  Both are covered in gorgeous silk brocade and are lined in white silk in the padded interiors..  The reason I believe they were originally made for some fabulous seals is that both have red stains on the internal white silk at one end where the seal (with the remains of sealing wax) would have come in contact.  The larger of the two is 4" long x 2 1/8" deep x 1.5" tall.  It would have held an object approximately 2.5" x 3/4" x 3/4".  The smaller box is 2 5/8" long x 1 3/4" deep x 1 3/8" tall.  It would have held an object 2 3/4" x 7/8" x 7/8".  The exteriors of these boxes are in great condition. Other than minor staining, the interiors are also in good condition.  The larger of the two boxes has what might be a receipt for or description of what was originally in that box.
