Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: Very good condition on this dark stained lacquerware jewelry box from Japan or China featuring inlaid mother-of-pearl cranes in the marsh underneath a full moon and pine tree's with florals hanging down; the inlay work has lots of horizontal lines for the water the cranes are standing in, and vertical shafts of the many grasses they stand amongst. There are a few issues; the inner drawers (3) are absent on the left side, and the edges of the doors are not varnished like the rest of the cabinet, and the right-hand door sometimes chooses to not stay closed (and pops outwards gleefully about one inch), but mostly is content to be closed, but perhaps an adjustment could be made. Not all of the inner screws on the hinges match. The right side has a mirror and a necklace hanger. Just a really stunning chest with an impressive size, and would look regal and elegant on any mantle, console table, This handsome chest measures aprox. 14.5" wide and is 12" in height and 6.35" deep.

    Description

Beautiful dark stained lacquerware jewelry box from Japan or China for your home or vanity.  Featuring inlaid mother-of-pearl cranes hunting in the marsh underneath a full moon and pine tree's with florals hanging down;  this box is indeed stunning to look at, and the inlay work is amazing, lots of horizontal lines for the water the cranes are standing in, and vertical shafts of the many grasses they stand in and a deep range of purple tones in the mother-of-pearl shell.  There are a few issues; the inner drawers on the left side (3) are absent, and the edges of the doors are not varnished in high gloss to match the rest of the chest, and the right-hand door sometimes chooses to not stay closed (and pops outwards gleefully about one inch), but mostly is content to be closed, and the right side cabinet has a mirror and a manually rotating necklace holder.  but perhaps an adjustment could be made.  Not all of the inner screws on the hinges match. And due to it's age of aprox. 40 years, it does have some light age appropriate scuffs and scratches, but are minimal (the worse scrape is shown in the last photo). But just a really stunning chest with an impressive size, and would look regal and elegant on any mantle, console table, or shelf.  This handsome chest measures aprox. 14.5" wide and is  12" in height and 6.35" deep and weighs aprox. 9.5 pounds..
